READY TO CREATE YOUR ADVENTURE?
Our team has carefully curated a weekend full of activities to choose from all designed to empower you on your outdoor journey. This is a great opportunity to try new activities, enjoy ones you already love, and create a weekend you will remember forever. Leave inspired to go on more adventures! We are thrilled that you are interested in joining us at this Escape. Please keep in mind that we have created this schedule a year in advance of the event and some changes may be necessary prior the Escape.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR SCHEDULE

  1. We recommend choosing one more active class per day (rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling, long hike) and one of the less active classes / workshops per day to pace your self for the weekend.
  2. Please do not sign up for the same class/workshop more than once to ensure all participants have the chance to try different activities.
  3. If you are interested in a class that is full please sign up for the waitlist. We do have the ability to increase capacity in some classes if there is enough interest.
  4. Please do not double book time slots.
Following these guidelines will help ensure that you don’t overdo it and that everyone will get to have a weekend full of different experiences.

PLEASE NOTE: You need to be registered to sign up for classes and create your schedule. Click here to register!

Starting and ending with a beautiful 1.25 mile hike (each way), this class is a favorite of all who take it!

We will go over some basic watercolor painting concepts and explore painting different scenes around the area. As a group, we will take some time being still and observing our surroundings, feelings, and presence in the space. Our goal is to create beautiful artwork while exploring this question: "How does being still and shifting perspectives change your perception of the scene and your connection to it over time?"

Required: Please bring something to sit on and be prepared to go for a hike to find inspiration. Closed-toed shoes are required.

Staying Found: Mastering Navigation Basics at Smith Rock State Park

Cell phones and GPS devices can serve as excellent navigation tools in the backcountry…but what happens when batteries die or your equipment goes on the fritz? You pull out your map and compass and stay the course! This hands-on workshop takes a deep dive into all of the basics of classic map-and-compass navigation techniques. We’ll get comfortable with the parts and functions of modern mirrored compasses, learn how to turn a topographic map from a flat piece of paper to a magical representation of the 3D world, and then we’ll put it all together with a series of fun challenges out in the field. Put together, these skills don’t just help you figure out where you are at any given moment, but also help you develop confidence stepping off trail, locate sweet campsites and travel to interesting places just off the beaten path, identify peaks and other features on the landscape, and show off to all of your friends (we kid, we kid - sort of). No experience necessary and all equipment is provided - just bring your curiosity!

Backcountry Essential Skills

The secret to really enjoying yourself in the backcountry can’t be found in any single piece of gear, trail snack, or hiking buddy - it’s in letting go of fear (yours or the kind projected by someone else) and instead carrying the confidence and know-how that you can handle any situation that comes up. Worried about getting injured? Not sure you have the right equipment for a backpacking trip? Curious about proper hygiene protocols? Wonder how to handle rough weather or animal encounters? Not sure if you feel safe rolling solo? Freaked out about potential gear failures? Your instructor has seen it all, from hailstorms on the Colorado Trail to bear encounters on the Pacific Crest Trail to digestive distress in Tanzania—and she survived it all in order to share her tips and tricks. This hands-on workshop will be loads of fun and highly interactive - come ready to live, laugh, and learn!

Cave Exploration

Scattered around the sage-covered High Desert lie ancient caves, buried by the volcanic upheavals in centuries known to past peoples. We'll discover the hidden underground world of these large cool caverns in a way that's safe and fascinating!

Leading very small groups with headlamps for all, our guides will provide in-depth interpretation on the formation of the lava tubes, the wildlife habitat inside the caves, and the many uses of the caves over time from Native American dwellings to cold storage for early Bend residents. Central Oregon's caves are delicate ecosystems that few have experienced in this way.

Intelligent Movement workshop with Maggie Umberger

Grow your confidence in all the outdoor activities you want to explore through this strength, mobility and breath workshop with your coach, Maggie Umberger. You'll learn how strength, mobility and your breath allwork together to help you feel your best in all the summer adventures you take on.

In this workshop, we'll move through a series of mobility exercises and talk about how and why they are helpful, no matter the activity. We'll also get a little sweaty in a total body strength session, but we aren't just working out for the sake of working out. We'll go over how to more mindfully connect to the strength exercises through breath so that you can get the most out of them, and more deeply connect to your own body's unique needs. You'll leave the session with a few different pre and post-workout (or adventure!) mobility and breathing drills to keep in your back pocket that will help you feel refreshed and ready to keep on adventuring all summer long.

Cave Exploration

This experience is always a favorite of everyone who signs up!

Be prepared to hike and crawl your way through the tunnels!

Being Still in Nature: Plein Air Painting

This class starts, and ends, with a beautiful 1.25 mile hike (each way) and is a favorite of all who take it!
